Welcome to the 2007 Chicago Cicada Haiku Contest
Rules and Guidelines
Deadline: All entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. (Central/Chicago time) on Monday, July 2. Entries received after that date will not be considered.
Eligibility: This contest is open to the public. This means you. So what are you waiting for? Enter now!
Entry fee: FREE! There is no entry fee.
Regulations: Up to three unpublished haiku may be entered by each person. Entries must consist of the author's original haiku poetry that has not been previously published in a printed book, journal or magazine (sold or given away), or in any online journal that publishes edited content. Haiku that have appeared on blogs, discussion groups or other unedited postings or listings are not considered as "published" and may be submitted. To be considered, the subject or text of the haiku must include the season word "cicada" or season words related to cicadas.
Submissions: Submit each haiku via e-mail. Please type the words "Cicada Haiku" in the subject line. Please include your first and last name and your e-mail address with your entry. If you are one of the first, second or third place winners, you will be contacted and asked to share your mailing address so that you may receive your prize.
Judging: The names of the judge(s) will be announced after the contest.
Publication: All entries will be posted on the Chicago Cicada Haiku Web site through October 1, 2007. Winning entries (first prize, second prize, third prize and honorable mention) will also be published this fall in the Chicago Cicada Haiku chapbook.
Rights: All rights revert to the author after publication on Chicago Cicada Haiku Web site and in the Chicago Cicada Haiku chapbook.
Awards: First prize: Chicago Cicada t-shirt and three copies of the Chicago Cicada Chapbook; second prize: Chicago Cicada t-shirt and two copies of the Chicago Cicada Chapbook; third prize: Chicago Cicada t-shirt and one copy of the Chicago CicadaChapbook.
Notification: Links to a winners list will be posted on the Chicago Cicadas and Chicago Cicada Haiku Web sites on or before August 6 2007. First, second and third place winners will also be notified by e-mail.
