I heard them. Did you? Cicadas singing on tonight's Walking Dead.

Yep, I heard the cicadas singing in the Georgia forest on tonight's episode 2 of Walking Dead on AMC. Wonder if they were periodical cicadas or dog-day cicadas?

If they're periodical cicadas, the next emergence of the Great Southern Brood (Brood XIX) that covers Georgia and other regions of southeast is expected during the summer of 2011. Does that mean, the rise of the zombies will happen this summer?

And I wonder, do zombies eat cicadas?

Walking Dead, Episode 2, tonight on AMC, 10 p.m. Eastern/9 p.m. Central. No matter how the series unfolds, we all know that bed bugs are leading the real zombie invasion (must have human blood...).

Monday Morning Cicada News Wrap-Up

Many mosquito and black gnat sightings this week, but only a few early emerging cicadas  -- so far! But Cicada Storm Team coverage continues. Here's the latest buzz:

• FOX43 in Peoria reports on the mating song of the cicada and provides a black gnat update -- don't worry, those pesky little biters won't be around long.
• The Herald News features Spectrum Technologies Inc., a Plainfield, Illinois company that monitors soil temperatures. When the soil warms to between 64-65 degrees the cicadas will emerge.
• Lake County's Daily Herald covers a recent fifth-grade cicada hunt.
