The recent party shift in our nation's politics brought to mind some similarities between good brands and good government.
In order to truly lead a brand or a government that delivers on its promises, you have to make it about the people.
Brands that are too much about the product, service or company, or a governing body that's too much about the party are destined to fail. In one case we stop buying. In the other, we vote the scoundrels out.
Of course, the stakes are much higher when partisan politics guides our leaders toward the good of the party and away from the good of the people.
But we can set a positive example as brand stewards -- by delivering access, usability and relevance for our customers, and demanding it of our elected officials.
